Mike Norvell's Florida State lands commitment of four-star IOL Peyton Joseph for class of 2025
Four-star interior offensive lineman Peyton Joseph, from Houston County High in Warner Robins, Georgia, announced his commitment to the Florida State Seminoles' 2025 recruiting class on Thursday. He chose the Seminoles over the Memphis Tigers, becoming the second offensive line commit to the class following Solomon Thomas.
Joseph previously committed to the Florida Gators earlier this year. His de-commitment from the Gators in April opened the door for the Seminoles to make a strong push for him. The 6-foot-4, 308-pound IOL later became a frequent visitor to the Florida State campus, attending at least four spring practices, including three back-to-back sessions over five days in April.
Joseph also enjoyed an official visit to the Seminoles last month before ultimately giving his pledge.
Peyton Joseph's commitment makes him the 10th overall commit for Florida State's 2025 class, with all 10 being blue-chip players. According to 247Sports, Joseph is ranked as the No. 133 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 7 interior offensive lineman and the No. 17 recruit in Georgia for the 2025 class. On3 ranks him as the No. 224 overall prospect, the No. 14 IOL and the No. 27 recruit in the state.
While Joseph currently plays tackle, Osceola recruiting analyst Charles Fishbein projects him as a guard at the collegiate level. He also competes in track and field, specifically in the shot put, where he posted a sophomore-best throw of 43.5 feet last year.
Why did Peyton Joseph pick the Seminoles?
Peyton Joseph received over two dozen offers from programs such as LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Kentucky, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State and Texas A&M. Despite the charm of these prestigious programs, he found the Seminoles coaching staff’s genuineness to be a key factor.
“They have been real with me ever since my recruitment started,” Joseph told On3.
Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins, whose birthday coincides with the fourth of July, is regarded for his recruiting prowess. His relationship with Peyton Joseph goes beyond the typical coach-recruit dynamic, with Joseph likening Atkins to a father figure.
“What makes coach Atkins different from every other coach is that he is not only about recruiting you. He’s about telling you the truth, telling you how you can be developed and telling you how this team can be developed as one,” Joseph said.
Coach Mike Norvell's relentless energy and enthusiasm also strengthened Joseph’s decision:
“He’s nonstop. I recently spent an entire week there, from Sunday to Sunday. He was nonstop with energy. It was 5:00 a.m. or 6:00 a.m. in the morning and he had energy. He brings energy to the team and that’s something you need from a head coach.”
Family ties also influenced Joseph's choice, as his cousin, offensive guard TJ Ferguson, transferred to Florida State from Alabama this year. The supportive and fervent fanbase at FSU added another appeal for Joseph.
“There is a phenomenal atmosphere at Florida State. They have a phenomenal fanbase and phenomenal coaches,” Peyton Joseph said.
