Mile Elko's Texas A&M lands commitment from four-star WR Kelshaun Johnson to the class of 2025

Four-star wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson has committed to Texas A&M's 2025 recruiting class. After a two-week delay due to Hurricane Beryl, Johnson made his announcement on Tuesday afternoon, choosing the Aggies over the Arkansas Razorbacks, Texas Longhorns, USC Trojans and Texas Tech Red Raiders.

The delay allowed Johnson to carefully consider his options, ultimately favoring coach Mike Elko's Texas A&M program.

“That definitely helped a lot to just make sure it’s the right school for me,” Johnson told The Daily News.

Kelshaun Johnson, a 5-foot-11, 160-pound WR from Hitchcock High School in Hitchcock, Texas, is not only a standout on the football field but also excels in track and field. As a sophomore, he qualified for the Texas 3A state championships in the 100 meters, 4x100 relay and 4x200 relay. Now, his focus is on his upcoming season.

“I can’t wait for this year,” Johnson told Vype. “This is my last ride with my guys and we have been putting in a lot of work this offseason to make a big run in the playoffs and hopefully win it all.”

The Aggies' pursuit of Kelshaun Johnson became even more crucial after they lost out on four-star wide receiver Taz Williams to Baylor. He is the second receiver in the Aggies' 2025 class, joining Tristan Norman.

With Johnson's commitment, Texas A&M now has 19 known prospects for its 2024 class, which is ranked seventh nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Kelshaun Johnson reveals why he picked Texas A&M

Kelshaun Johnson received more than 20 offers, but he found Texas A&M to be like home. His commitment comes from three visits to the Aggies, including a visit last month.

“When I first got there, it felt like home,” Johnson said ( via On3). “The whole staff treated me, my mom and my sister like we belonged there. They really cared for not only me, but also my mom and my sister.”

A major influence on Johnson’s decision was the new offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, Holmon Wiggins, who previously spent five successful seasons at Alabama.

“Coach Wiggins has a great track record developing elite wide receivers,” Johnson told Vype. “You look at how he developed DeVonta Smith and Henry Ruggs, those are two players that I feel like are very similar to me. I want to be coached by the best and coach Wiggins is one of the best.”

Johnson built a strong bond with the rest of the Aggies’ coaching staff, including Elko and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Collin Klein. His visits allowed him to bond with several members of Texas A&M’s incoming class, including quarterback commit Husan Longstreet.

Kelshaun Johnson ranks as the No. 221 player in the country, the No. 31 wide receiver and the No. 39 player in Texas, per On3. 247Sports lists him as the No. 196 player in the country, the No. 20 wide receiver and the No. 27 player in the state.
