Missouri Football Recruiting: 4-Star CB Charles Bass commits to Eliah Drinkwitz's Tigers
Charles Bass, a four-star cornerback from East St. Louis High School in Illinois, has committed to Missouri. Throughout the year, the prospect visited Missouri multiple times before ultimately giving his pledge to the Tigers.
This announcement, made on July 10, follows a decision delay from the initially planned date of July 1. Bass had more than two dozen offers on the table and he chose the Tigers after considering offers from Kansas State, Illinois, LSU, Texas A&M and Michigan State, among others.
According to On3, Charles Bass is ranked as the No. 54 cornerback in the 2025 cycle and the No. 16 player in Illinois. 247 Sports lists him as the No. 41 cornerback and the No. 13 player in the state. His records from the previous season include 74 tackles, an interception and two fumble recoveries.
Bass' role with the Tigers remains versatile and the program's coaching staff also appreciates his ability to play multiple positions within the defensive backfield.
"They like my versatility," Bass told Rivals. "Right now they’ve got me as a STAR, a nickel, but they said I’ll have a chance to play all five defensive back positions."
Charles Bass opens up about his commitment to Missouri
Despite strong pushes from Illinois and Arkansas, Missouri emerged as the clear choice for Charles Bass due to proximity.
“What stands out most to me about Missouri is how it feels like home,” Bass told On3. “It is close to home and it really feels that way."
Head coach Eli Drinkwitz's program potential and the bonds Bass formed with cornerbacks coach Al Pogue and coach Corey Batoon were also crucial.
"Just the coaching staff," Bass told 247 Sports. "I talked to coach Drink a lot. I like what they're doing with developing guys. I came and watched practice and saw during my official visit, it looked like the guys are being developed and having fun."
Missouri has successfully tapped into familiar recruiting grounds with Charles Bass. He follows the footsteps of wide receiver Luther Burden III, Dominic Lovett and new transfer cornerback Toriano Pride Jr., all of whom are from East St. Louis. Bass credited the program for its potential to develop players for the NFL.
"The growth of the program is a factor. The coaches' spots are more stable. I'm trying to go to the next level and they're developing guys. They just had two DBs in the draft this year and I'm trying to be in their shoes."
With his commitment, Charles Bass becomes the fifth player to pledge to the Tigers in the span of a week and the 17th commit of the class of 2025. He joins fellow safety Dyllon Williams and becomes the third defensive back in the class.
