"No use joining SU and be forever known as Carmelo's son": Hoops fans react to Carmelo Anthony's latest update on son Kiyan Anthony's college decision

Sought-after four-star shooting guard Kiyan Anthony is down to just two schools, as announced by his father, NBA legend Carmelo Anthony. During his appearance on "The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon" on Friday, the former New York Knicks star hinted that it is all down to USC and Syracuse, and fans have made their opinions known.

As expected, fans were divided. Some wanted Kiyan Anthony to go to USC, while some wanted him to go to his father's alma mater, Syracuse. Those calling for USC said he should go to California since committing to Syracuse would likely mean the 6-foot-5 guard would continue living in his father's shadow.

Others, however, think choosing USC means Kiyan could stay with his mom, La La Anthony.

"Go USC, get that NIL and Ju Ju. No use joining SU and be forever known as Carmelo's son," commented one USC fan.
"Going to USC is probably so he can stay close to his mom," thought one fan.
"Doesn’t want his dad’s shadow and will go to USC," added another fan.

However, those cheering for him to opt for Syracuse highlighted it is all about legacy and continuing what his father started there. Carmelo won the NCAA championship with the Orange in 2003 before going to the NBA. Some are also calling for Kiyan to stay home in New York.

"USC would be a BIG mistake!! Too much distraction!!! Go upstate New York and he’ll be focused and a guaranteed star in the nba," a Syracuse fan pointed out.
"Go to Syracuse and get drafted by the Knicks in a few years and be a legend," another fan added.
"Cuse!!! Y’all know he following pop’s footsteps" another commenter said.

This announcement means that Kiyan has now dropped Auburn as a potential school he would attend. He stated that USC head coach Eric Musselman had been very supportive of him, and he spent most of his life going to Syracuse with his dad.

Carmelo is confident son Kiyan Anthony can achieve great things

During his interview with Fallon, Carmelo Anthony said he saw himself in his son Kiyan Anthony. He further said that he believes Kiyan can achieve great things, too.

"I can see the same eyes that probably looked at me during my high school days," Carmelo told Fallon. "There’s pressure and you know what’s ahead of them. The blueprint is already laid out. By following it, you’ll make it there."

Kiyan has previously stated that he is examining his opportunities in those last two schools and plans to announce a decision in the next few weeks.
