Oregon football recruiting: 4-star OL Alai Kalaniuvalu finalizes commitment to Dan Lanning's team

Four-star interior offensive lineman Alai Kalaniuvalu committed to Oregon's 2025 recruiting class. He announced the decision on Wednesday, choosing Dan Lanning's program over Michigan, Utah, Nebraska and USC.

Kalaniuvalu, originally from Provo, Utah and playing for Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, follows in the footsteps of Gael Kodi DeCambra, who also committed to Oregon. His decision comes after an official visit to Oregon last month.

In an interview with Duck Sports Authority following the trip, Alai Kalaniuvalu had high praise for the Ducks.

"The culture of the team, you already know they got something going on. They had a really successful season this past season, just really putting Oregon back on the chart. And just hanging out with the players and coach [A'lique] Terry, I was able to just understand their work ethic and understand where I could fit into the Oregon program."

Before committing to Oregon, Kalaniuvalu also visited USC, Utah, and Michigan. One of the standout moments for him was Oregon’s Jackson Powers-Johnson winning the Rimington Trophy as the best center in college football, which proved the Ducks’ excellence in developing offensive linemen.

Though part of the 2025 recruiting class, Kalaniuvalu will take a two-year mission trip before beginning his college football career, making him eligible to join the Ducks in the 2027 season. On3 projected him to play on the interior of the offensive line, with 247 national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins noting his potential as a center.

Oregon's recruiting class update with Alai Kalaniuvalu commitment

Alai Kalaniuvalu is the No. 176 prospect in the nation, the No. 9 interior offensive lineman in the 2025 class and the No. 4 prospect in Nevada, according to 247 Sports. On3 ranks him as the No. 71 interior offensive lineman in the class and the No. 5 prospect in the state.

Kalaniuvalu's commitment marks the third addition to Oregon's offensive line cohort for the 2025 class, joining Ziyare Addison and Demetri Manning. The class now boasts a total of 16 verbal commitments and ranks No. 4 nationally by On3, positioning the Ducks alongside Ohio State, Alabama and Georgia in the recruiting rankings.

The Ducks' 2025 class features the following:

  • Dakorien Moore
  • Da’Saahn Brame
  • Dallas Wilson
  • Cooper Perry
  • Isaiah Mozee
  • Dierre Hill
  • Jordon Davison
  • Akili Smith Jr.
  • Ziyare Addison
  • Nasir Wyatt
  • Matthew Johnson
  • Brandon Finney

  • Demetri Manning
  • Josiah Sharma

They are also targeting promising players like Juan Gaston, Aaron Dunn and Austin Pay.
