Four-star running back Jae Lamar is enjoying a breakout junior season at Colquitt County High School in Georgia, and college programs are taking notes. Sherrone Moore and his Michigan coaching staff have been extremely active in the recruitment process over the last few weeks, and they reached out to Lamar as well for the Wolverines' 2026 class.

Michigan running back coach Tony Alford extended the scholarship to Lamar, and the player shared the news on X, writing,

"After a great conversation with @CoachTonyAlford I am Very thankful & blessed to receive a offer from @UMichFootball ! @CoachHoon @CCPackersFball."

In 10 games this season, Lamar has amassed 825 rushing yards, averaging 82.5 yards per game, and has scored 10 touchdowns. He has recorded over 100 rushing yards in three games and also added 172 receiving yards with two more touchdowns.

Since the release of his junior season, Lamar, whose full name is Ty’jaevian, has been hot in the recruiting world. Last week, he received offers from Ohio State and Alabama. Tennessee, Auburn and Missouri also joined the race last month.

Despite only being ranked by On3 so far, Lamar's strong season is likely to raise his profile across all recruiting channels. On3 places him as the No. 126 overall prospect nationally, the No. 13 running back in the 2026 class and the No. 16 player in Georgia.

Jae Lamar opens up about the Michigan Wolverines offer

Despite a challenging 5-4 season record under first-year coach Sherrone Moore, Michigan's football legacy remains strong. Moore’s debut has had its ups and downs, but the Wolverines have a solid foundation and high expectations for a return to Championship glory of last season.

For top recruits like Jae Lamar, Michigan still represents a big opportunity.

"I am interested in Michigan a lot. Their backs stand out to me!" Lamar told 247 Sports.

The latest addition to Michigan’s 2026 recruiting class came last month with three-star wide receiver Jaylen Pile, who chose the Wolverines over Auburn, Oregon, Florida State, Notre Dame and Oklahoma. The class also has quarterback Brady Hart and cornerback Brody Jennings committed.

The program is also on track to secure four-star running back Javian Mallory, with an 83.6% chance of his commitment in the 2026 class, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
