Steve Sarkisian's Texas Longhorns lands commitment from 5-star WR Kaliq Lockett to the class of 2025
The Texas Longhorns made a huge splash in the 2025 recruiting cycle as it secured the commitment of Kaliq Lockett. The five-star wide receiver chose Steve Sarkisian's team over other top schools who recruited him.
Lockett, from Sachse High School in Texas, ultimately decided to stay close to home. He spoke about his decision and shared:
"It really came down to putting on for my home state and belief in what Coach Sark and Coach (Chris) Jackson have in-state for me," the five-star recruit said, as per On3. "I’m going to have to do all the work. But I know if I do the work..., learn the playbook, get good grades..., I know I’ll see the field freshman year and I know I’ll be successful."
Lockett also spoke about Sarkisian and the opportunity to play under him.
"Being around Coach Sark is a blessing itself," Lockett said, as per On3. "He’s put a lot of guys in the league and he’s been around a lot of talented guys. Right now I’m going to be in the big pond full of sharks and piranhas and I know I’m one of them sharks."
Kaliq Lockett is ranked no.17 nationally and is the third-best wide receiver from the class of 2025, as per On3 Industry Rankings. He is also the sixth-best overall prospect from the state of Texas.
Kaliq Lockett becomes the highest-ranked receiver to commit to Texas in the Steve Sarkisian era
Lockett is the latest high school prospect from the class of 2025 to announce his commitment to the Texas Longhorns. He is also the highest-ranked WR to commit to Texas in the Steve Sarkisian era.
Per On3, Lockett outranked 2021 five-star prospect Xavier Worthy (55), 2022 wideout Brenan Thompson (101), 2023 Texas receiver Johntay Cook (31), and 2024 recruit Ryan Wingo (38).
The 6-foot-1 WR hauled in 59 receptions for 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns in his junior year in high school. His huge frame will help Texas in 50/50 plays. Acquiring Lockett will also boost Texas' offense and help them land other coveted recruits from the class of 2025.
Lockett received offers from top schools such as Alabama, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, LSU, Texas Tech, Oregon, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.
However, the Longhorns had the best odds of landing him as On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine gave the program an 88.3% chance of landing Lockett.
