Steve Sarkisian's Texas offers a full athletic scholarship to 2025 class prospect and CB commit Caleb Chester
Three-star cornerback Caleb Chester made headlines last month with his commitment to the Texas Longhorns. His decision came after an official visit to the program on the weekend of June. He was impressed enough to choose the Longhorns over other suitors such as Texas A&M, Arkansas and Florida State.
On Friday, head coach Steve Sarkisian offered him a full athletic scholarship. The prospect shared the offer letter on X, which read:
"Today is a big day here on the Forty Acres, and we want you and your family to join in on the excitement!" the statement read. "On behalf of myself and our entire Texas Football Staff, it is with great pride that I extend to you a full athletic scholarship to play football at The University of Texas."
Chester's commitment is seen as a big boost for the Longhorns as they aim to fortify their defensive lineup. During the 2023 season, he recorded 16 tackles and defended four passes. Coach Sarkisian praised Chester's attributes, saying:
"I believe you possess the right combination of good character, athletic ability, and competitive spirit necessary to achieve the highest level of success at The University of Texas. The University is fully committed to providing the best resources possible to prepare you for success on the football field, in the classroom, and in the community."
The scholarship offer is contingent upon Caleb Chester meeting both the NCAA and Texas' admission requirements. It will become effective upon his enrollment in 2025 and continue until his eligibility is exhausted. Sarkisian's letter concluded with an optimistic outlook:
"Our staff and I look forward to developing our relationships with you and your family, and also having you become a part of ours. This is an exciting time for Texas Football, and we are so thrilled for you to be a part of it."
As per NCAA rules, August 1 of Chester’s senior year marks the official start date for written offers, making this letter his formal offer of athletic grant-in-aid. This full scholarship represents the maximum athletic aid permissible by NCAA standards.
Why did Caleb Chester pick Texas over other programs?
Caleb Chester marks the 11th pledge for Texas in the 2025 recruiting class and is the first secondary player to join the group.
Cornerback coach Terry Joseph and safety coach Blake Gideon have played a vital role in securing his commitment. Over the past couple of years, both coaches made multiple visits to Fort Bend Marshall to build a relationship with Chester.
"Coach Joseph, I like him a lot," Chester told 247Sports. "He's a real standup guy, and I talk to him on a frequent basis about things like sports, life stuff, family stuff, just everything. I got a real good relationship with him."
Chester's commitment also influenced coach Sarkisian's diligent effort.
"I'm also being coached by Coach Sark. He's one of the winningest coaches in all of college football right now, and the other things, they were just great."
Standing at 6’2” and weighing 175 pounds, Chester is listed as the No. 106 cornerback prospect in the country and the No. 196 in the 2025 class, according to 247 Sports. On3 ranks him as the No. 53 cornerback prospect in the country and the No. 79 in the 2025 class.
