"That’s a bold faced lie": Kentucky fans react to $1 million NIL deal rumors surrounding elite signee Jasper Johnson
Overtime Elite star Jasper Johnson may have signed with the Kentucky Wildcats already, but there are already some rumors swirling regarding what got him to sign. According to Kentucky Hoops' X handle, he was allegedly given over $1 million and a cybertruck as part of his NIL package.
Johnson has been rated by 247Sports as a five-star prospect and the No. 13 overall recruit from the Class of 2025. Rumor has it that overall, the package is worth more than the entire Kentucky Wildcats basketball roster for this season.
Many fans cast some doubt on these numbers, particularly Johnson's NIL being worth more than the entire UK roster.
"lol that’s a bold faced lie. Kentucky’s current roster was formulated with likely over 5 million dollars," one commenter claimed.
"His NIL deal isn’t more than the entire team. There are 2 current players that got over a million. And 3 others that since they been here plus there nil are over a million now," said another commenter.
"They just make up numbers. No one knows unless the player, coach or agent flat out says it. This is just a ploy to drive away Caleb. UNC probably put this number out there. They likely know the number UK is offering CW and leaked that JJ is getting more so they can say, you are our top priority… they already have their top priority." another commenter added.
Meanwhile, others agreed that the reporting on Jasper Johnson being given more than the entire Kentucky roster on the NIL front may be wrong.
"even if this were true.( BTW it is more false than true). why post anything that could create a distraction or worse, upset one of our guys? I know the answer but it would be super cool if all of these "UK" accounts would care more about that and less about your engagements." said another commenter.
"I do not believe one bit of this.," replied another person.
"Good for him but them trucks are so ugly," another pointed out.
Jasper Johnson helping Kentucky recruit another five-star target
Meanwhile, Jasper Johnson may also be working on the recruitment front for Kentucky, as the Wildcats signee is reportedly trying to help the school out in convincing five-star forward Caleb Wilson to commit to the school.
“I’ve been trying to talk to him, try and recruit him, pick his brain on where he’s going, but I know he’ll make the best decision for himself,” Johnson said.
The No. 5 ranked overall has remained uncommitted, but the prospect of teaming with another five-star in his class and possibly challenging for a national title may attract him to the school.
