"They can't doubt me no more": When LSU's Flau'jae Johnson shared her feelings on being named to prestigious All-Star team
LSU Tigers' guard and American rapper Flau'jae Johnson has kept the pedal on the gas for Kim Mulkey's team. The 5-foot-10 guard is averaging 20.8 points per game after 13 matchups this season.
While Johnson has continued to perform at the highest level in her collegiate career, it all started at her school, Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia.
Sports TV anchor Reggie Chatman took to YouTube to upload a video of Flau'jae Johnson's interview on Feb. 3, 2022, as she talked about getting named into the prestigious McDonald's All-American game:
"The best moment ever, I'm not gonna lie, it was really for me because I know who I am, I know what I could do, but having that stamp and having that validation to show everybody because I worked so hard, I got this McDonald's all-American. They can't doubt me no more," said Johnson. (0:44 - 0:59)
During an interview with MTV on June 7, Flau'jae Johnson also talked about balancing her basketball career and music career, stating that those kinds of questions frustrate her:
"It gets annoying because, they're like, which one you gonna do? I'm doing both.
"Do you see me doing both? It's kind of getting on my nerves cause I'm working so hard trying to do both, and you still asking me, am I gonna do one? No. Every day I am paying and paying and paying and trying to push this thing through the finish line," Johnson said.
However, she seems to be doing a good job with her music as well as basketball. She has over 140K subscribers on YouTube, 111,946 monthly listeners on Spotify and a distribution deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation.
Flau'jae Johnson on her NIL deal with Unrivaled
The LSU guard signed a NIL deal with the 3-on-3 Unrivaled Basketball League on Dec. 5 as she is set to receive equity in the league:
“I’m so excited to partner with Unrivaled, especially at the start of their first season," Flau'jae said. "This isn’t just about basketball, it’s about pushing the game forward and creating real opportunities for women in sports.”
Flau'jae Johnson has 25 NIL deals and a NIL value of $1.5 million (according to On3). She also joined her former teammate Hailey van Lith in a deal with Apple Cash and Isaiah Coller in a deal with Powerade. Furthermore, she is also the brand ambassador for The Athlete's Foot.
Flau'jae Johnson and the Tigers will now face UIC on Dec. 20.
