“They’re well-coached, and they’re disciplined": Dan Lanning's Oregon Ducks receive high praise from the nation's No. 1 QB in 2026 class
Five-star quarterback Jared Curtis committed to Georgia in March, but he reopened his recruitment by backing off his pledge last month. His decision to explore other programs has put many elite schools on alert, and this past weekend, he took an official visit to Oregon to witness the Ducks' 39-18 victory over Maryland.
Speaking with On3's Steve Wiltfong on Sunday, Curtis had heavy praise for Dan Lanning's program, which is enjoying an undefeated 10-0 season, including a perfect 7-0 record in the Big Ten.
“They’re well-coached, and they’re disciplined. What they do in their offense with the quarterbacks and getting players around them,” the QB said.
One of the highlights for Curtis was the famously loud atmosphere of Autzen Stadium.
"I’d say the craziest thing that shocked me the most was the atmosphere," Curtis told Scoop Duck. "Holding 55,000 people the stadium was still unbelievably loud. That's probably the biggest thing."
This is not Curtis’ first time connecting with the Ducks, as he previously visited Eugene in April for the Spring Game. He can be a good addition to Oregon's 2026 class, which ranks No. 1 in the nation with seven committed players.
If Jared Curtis commits to the Ducks, he will be the second quarterback in the cycle, joining four-star prospect Jonas Williams. The Ducks have another major commitment in Akili Smith Jr., a quarterback from the 2025 class who also appears firm in his pledge.
Can the Oregon Ducks secure Jared Curtis' commitment?
Jared Curtis has received more than 30 offers across the country, and the schools in play include Oregon, USC, South Carolina, Ohio State, Alabama and Auburn. So far, the Ducks seem to have an edge, and Curtis also clarified the school's standing in his recruitment last month, saying (via On3),
“My interest in Oregon is above the others right now. It’s my relationship with coach (OC Will) Stein and coach (Dan) Lanning. It’s great and we had a great time when we went up there.”
Curtis’s performance on the field backs up the intense recruiting battle, as he was named Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year nominee this week. Ohio State will host him on Nov. 23 for the game against Indiana, and Alabama is scheduled to welcome him on Nov. 30 for the Iron Bowl clash with Auburn.
