“This is just the beginning”: 2027 QB Derrick Baker expresses excitement on signing NIL deal with top trading cards brand

St. Thomas Aquinas High School's quarterback from the class of 2027, Derrick Baker, signed an NIL deal and became one of the first high schoolers from the state of Florida to do so. He inked a deal with one of the best trading card brands in the high school space, Leaf Trading Cards.

Baker was understandably excited to sign the deal and spoke about it during an interview with On3.

"This wasn’t something I thought would come together when I was in high school," the 6-foot-1 quarterback told On3. "I just want to thank my parents for everything they’ve done to help me get to this point, and also all of my coaches and teammates for pushing me and helping me get better every day. This is just the beginning," he added.

The Florida native threw for 442 yards and six touchdowns on 32 of 44 passes in 11 games during his freshman year. He also ran for 150 yards and one touchdown during that time.

Leaf has signed agreements with some of the best athletes from the class of 2025. USC commit Julian Lewis, Florida's DJ Lagway, Tennessee commit George MacIntyre and Notre Dame commit Deuce Knight are some of the quarterbacks who have inked a deal with the trading card company.
