"Penn Charter duo @jakewestt3 & @matthewgilhool are COLD! The two had it going in a conference win over Phelps School 😤,'' the post was captioned.
Matt Gilhool scored 28 points against Phelps School, despite being on a minutes restriction. He talked about his game after the match ended, stating that he felt confident:
“Right when the game started, I felt comfortable, felt confident,” Gilhool said. “I believe in my abilities, and just stayed confident. That was my main thing coming into this game, even though I’m out of shape, still have a little bit of tiredness. I was still on a minutes restriction, but I still came out and played my game.”
Jake West finished the match with 17 points and assisted four out of five shots converted by Gilhool. Two more players finished with double digits for Penn Charter including Kai Shinholster, who scored 13 points, including a buzzer beater 3-pointer at the end of the second quarter, and Carter Smith with 10.
On the other hand, four players also finished with double digits for Phelps. Onyx Nnani had 27, Justin Houser scored 16, Kodi Johnson added 13 points to the board and Nyce Bakare had 11.
Coach Brandon Williams on Matt Gilhool
With this win, William Penn Chater now has a 3-1 record. Coach Williams talked about having Gilhool back after his injury for the first time in the season:
“I told him you come out at the four-minute mark, so I need these first four to be special and he did just that,” Williams said.
“Four games without him, man, is brutal, because we depend on not just his ability to play basketball but his energy, his personality, he’s a big part of this group. For him to get rolling the way he did in that first five minutes was just a big energy boost.”
Matt Gilhool committed to LSU on Sep. 10, while Jake West committed to Northwestern on Oct. 15.
