Freshman DJ Lagway shines as Gators end losing streak with 48-20 win over Kentucky

After three consecutive defeats, the Florida Gators finally revived themselves as they grabbed a 48-20 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats, commanded by freshman quarterback DJ Lagway.

At just 19 years old, the former Willis High School standout took the reins following Graham Mertz's season-ending knee injury against Tennessee.

Lagway seized the moment, completing 7-of-14 passes for 259 yards and rushing for 46 more. His dynamic performance included three 40+ yard passes in the first half and 300 total yards of offense by halftime.

During his high school career at Willis, Lagway played in 42 games, making a total of 569-of-874 passes for a total of 8,392 yards and 100 touchdowns. He also added 2,196 rushing yards and 29 scores on the ground in many of these games.

In his senior year, Lagway garnered national attention by breaking the Texas high school record for most passing touchdowns in a season.

After receiving offers from powerhouse programs like Miami, Georgia and Alabama, DJ Lagway chose to join Florida. Following a bye week, Lagway will face his biggest challenge yet — leading the Gators against #2 Georgia.
