"We're going to click": 5-star signee Keelon Russell is confident about partnership with star Alabama WR Ryan Williams
Alabama’s 2025 football recruiting class boasts a major gem in five-star quarterback Keelon Russell from Duncanville, Texas. Ranked as the No. 2 overall prospect nationally by the 247Sports Composite, Russell flipped his commitment from SMU to Alabama in June.
Russell has delivered an extraordinary final year at the pinnacle of Texas high school football, tallying over 5,000 passing yards with 52 touchdowns against just two interceptions. The confident quarterback envisions an immediate impact at Alabama, especially alongside elite wide receiver Ryan Williams.
In a Monday interview with “SeeHendo,” Keelon Russell expressed excitement about his future connection with Ryan Williams, a 2024 five-star commit from Saraland, Alabama.
"When I hit up Ryan Williams on the phone and be like, bro, honestly, I don't care about none of the, you know, I don't care about what nobody say. I don't care about the internet stuff. Don't care about all of that stuff, but when I come down to Bema, we're gonna click.
"I don't care. I don't care. And that's the same with all the other receivers. Like, we're gonna click."
Keelon Russell's drive to succeed at the collegiate level is clear, as he stated:
"I told right after I lost, I told Coach Sanders, I said, hey, bro, real stuff, I'm not even trying to, like, just hype your head up, but I'm coming here to start. I don't care. I like that. I come here to start. I don't want to just come in here and play games. I want to work. I want to work late, make me work, you know."
Williams, who had 1,324 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior, offers Russell a dynamic target.
From his prolific junior season stats of 3,483 yards and 38 touchdowns to his senior dominance, Russell’s journey underscores his readiness to lead Alabama’s offense.
Keelon Russell honored as National Player of the Year, reflects on career milestones
This week, Keelon Russell, Alabama's prized 2025 recruit, earned prestigious national accolades, being named both the Gatorade National Player of the Year and the Maxwell National High School Player of the Year.
In an interview with “SeeHendo,” Russell reflected on the journey leading to this recognition.
"Man, it's a blessing. Like, just even, just talking to my pops about this. Like, after coming from the Elite 11 win, I talked to my pops, he was like, you missing one thing. And one thing only is you haven't showed the world who you are in the pads. And that's where the real dogs come from."
Russell emphasized the importance of grit and determination.
"That's who you're gonna know who's gonna have that fight, who's gonna starve at the fourth quarter. You know what I'm saying? So just coming out there, proving my point, going out there just doing everything I can, showing my talents, getting this reward is just, it's unthinkable. It's like, man, it's crazy."
The 5-star quarterback from Duncanville, Texas, capped off a stellar senior season with a 69.4% completion rate, amassing 4,177 passing yards, 55 touchdowns and just four interceptions.
