"You never want to have a learning lesson like this": St. John Bosco's HC talks about their blowout defeat against State rivals Mater Dei
St. John Bosco's latest game against the Mater Dei Monarchs ended terribly for Jason Negro's team. The Braves were overwhelmed by the No. 1 team in the country and lost the game 59-14. It was a humiliating defeat for the No. 2-ranked team in the nation.
Both teams entered the game with an unbeaten record. The Braves were 8-0 whereas the Monarchs enjoyed a 7-0 start to their campaign. The game was billed as the clash of the ultimate high school titans, but it failed to live up to the hype.
The Braves' coach Jason Negro was naturally disappointed after such a devastating loss.
"We were just overwhelmed," Negro said, as per MSN. "The pressure was too much. It was like an avalanche. They're the best team we've faced. They're so physical up front. You never want to have a learning lesson like this."
The Monarchs jumped to an early lead and iced the game before halftime, going into the break with a 45-point lead. St. John Bosco scored the first touchdown of the second half, but it did not matter. Mater Dei went on to score another 14 points and handed the Braves their first loss of the season.
Mater Dei's head coach Raul Lara was in awe of his team's performance against St. John Bosco
Mater Dei, the No. 1 ranked team in the country, took on St. John Bosco on Friday and delivered a masterful performance at home to win the game, 59-14. It was a blowout of epic proportions as the Monarchs improved to 8-0 for the season.
Mater Dei's coach, Raul Lara, was impressed by his team's first-half performance, which saw them drop 45 unanswered points and pretty much seal the game in the first two periods.
"That’s the best first half we’ve ever played," Lara said, as per MSN. "I’m not surprised (by the score) … because I know when these guys are capable of doing the stuff we’ve been preaching, there’s nobody who’s going to beat them."
Both these teams split their two games last year with the Braves winning in the league, 28-0, while the Monarchs avenging that loss in the CIF-SS Division 1 final with a scoreline of 35-7.
The Monarchs will take on the Orange Lutheran Lancers in its next game on Friday, November 1. St. John Bosco on the other hand, will play JSerra Catholic on the same evening.
