Steve Sarkisian's Texas Longhorns strengthen their 2025 recruiting class with the commitment of 5-star DL Justus Terry

Manchester High School (GA) defensive lineman Justus Terry announced his decision to commit to the Texas Longhorns on Friday. This commitment further strengthens the Longhorns' 2025 class.

Terry is a 5-star recruit and had several offers. The DL was ranked ninth in the nationwide rankings for the 2025 class and was ranked as the third-best player in his class, in the state of Georgia, per 247sports.

Terry chose the Longhorns over other college football programs like Auburn, UGA, Alabama, Florida State and USC. It was a surprise to some that he chose Texas. The fact that he's from Georgia, combined with the Bulldogs' history of building great defenses led many to believe he would go to UGA. 247Sports had him at 100 percent to UGA per their Crystal Ball Prediction.

The Texas Longhorns currently have the No.1 ranked 2025 class according to 247Sports. The class includes 25 commits and features four 5-star recruits. The Longhorns have secured commitments from players like Jonah Williams, Kaliq Lockett and Michael Terry III.

Justus Terry's commitment to the University of Texas - A timeline

In January 2023, Justus Terry committed to Georgia but de-committed, after more than a year, in March this year. With that de-commitment, he flipped to Lincoln Riley's USC Trojans but that decision was short-lived and Justus Terry was back on the radar of several programs.

Terry had not come to a decision before the early signing day and schools were still vying for a chance to land the recruit. Schools like Alabama and Auburn were in the mix too. Terry visited Alabama in June 2024 before visiting Texas in October and Auburn in November.

With different schools in the running for the 5-star recruit, the Texas Longhorns were able to get a commitment from the defensive lineman out of Manchester High School in Douglasville, Georgia. Over the course of his high school career, Terry averages 5.6 tackles per game. He has totaled 18 sacks through his 24-game high school career.
