“Reminds me of the 4+1 project”— Fans divided over reports of BLACKPINK’s 8th Anniversary special event
BLACKPINK is approaching the 8th anniversary of their debut as a group, which will be celebrated on August 8, 2024. Surrounding the same, Korean media site Ten Asia reported a peek into plans for the group's anniversary on June 19, 2024. An official for BLACKPINK stated in an exclusive interview with Ten Asia reporter,
"As the debut anniversary has a special meaning to the Blackpink members, an event for fans is expected to be held. However, we are discussing what format it will take."
BLACKPINK released their debut album Square One, featuring popular songs Whistle and Boombayah, on August 8, 2016. Ever since, the group has released multiple iconic and celebrated songs. Now, to mark the 8th anniversary, the label will presumably be holding a special celebration. These reports left fans both excited and worried, as they shared a mixed reaction.
After the announcement reports, many fans showed an underwhelming response as they were reminded of the "4+1" project for BLACKPINK's 5th anniversary celebration in 2021. The 5th anniversary celebration announcement stated that the group would release five special projects; however, it didn't live up to the expectations of the fans.
"The 4+1 project has traumatized me so much, I don't have any high expectations. In fact, I don't even expect anything. Let's just have at least one ot4 pic. That's enough for us," user named @magicofmypinks tweeted on X.
Fans also took a dig at the 5th anniversary celebration, as they stated that it was full of merchandise and photobooks rather than a group activity.
"Another photobook," tweeted @Lisaya750269763.
Another fan stated how they would be satisfied even with a casual live featuring all four members: Rosé, Jennie, Lisa, and Jisoo. Other fans speculated about the early reports of the documentary about the Bornpink concert tour.
"just give us an ot4 casual live, just like the 3rd year anniversary live," commented @OT4OrNothingg.
"And it is probably the documentary of Bornpink," @annblinkeu tweeted.
@kim_minjeongie tweeted, "we’re so bp deprived that atp i would eat anything offered, i’m guessing it’s the bornpink documentary."
Fans also took a dig at YG Entertainment and how the label has disappointed with the group's content.
"I feel like it might be a fan meeting or like a special performance but I could be wrong because it’s still YG at the end of the day," @hearts444nessa tweeted on X.
"Does blackpink know?!," @IPeltz47283 doubted and questioned if the group members were even aware of the special project.
Other fans showed enthusiasm by tweeting "WOW," "I'm so excited," "can't wait," and more such tweets. While the event details for the 8th anniversary are still under wraps, fans anticipate the celebration to be grand and to see all four members together.
