3 PTO signings Seattle Kraken could consider before preseason feat. Denis Gurianov

The Seattle Kraken will be looking to get back into the playoff hunt next season. After reaching the second round of the playoffs in 2022-23, the Kraken missed the postseason last year.

Along the way, Seattle will need to bolster its depth. With cap space at a premium, bringing in players on PTOs could provide the club with cost-effective contracts, while filling out key depth roles throughout the lineup.

Here’s a closer look at three PTO signings the Seattle Kraken could consider as training camp opens.

3 PTO signings Seattle Kraken could consider before preseason

#3. Colin White - C

The former Ottawa Senators’ first-round pick from 2015 has failed to live up to expectations. He’s been a bit of a journeyman, playing with several organizations. Last season, White played 28 games, spending time with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, failing to register a point.

White could provide the Kraken with AHL depth while becoming a call-up in case of emergency. White can play a solid fourth-line role, especially with his above-average speed and defensive skills to keep opponents in check.

Seattle may look to bring White in on a two-way deal, sending him down to Coachella Valley if he doesn’t make the team.

#2. Rourke Chartier - C

Chartier is another former Senator would could play a key depth role for Seattle. In particular, Chartier’s physical style could prove useful in a checking role against some of the league’s tougher opponents.

Last season, Chartier managed three points in 37 games. Nevertheless, Chartier could be a cost-effective, bottom-six option that can fill out the roster without breaking the bank.

Chartier is coming off a one-year, $775k deal which means he could be added to the team at a reasonable cost as well.

#1. Denis Gurianov - RW

Gurianov has had a difficult time establishing himself as a full-time NHLer. While he’s shown impressive speed and skills on the ice, he hasn’t been able to translate them into a successful career.

Last season, Gurianov spent time with the Philadelphia Flyers and Nashville Predators, scoring two points in 18 games.

The former No. 12 overall pick from 2015 could be another useful bottom-six option for the Kraken. With new coach Dan Bylsma taking over, Gurianov could carve a role for himself on the Kraken’s checking line as his speed and versatility would add an interesting touch to the club’s strong defensive unit.

Gurianov signed a one-year $850K deal last season, allowing the Krakeb another solid, low-risk addition to the team.
