7 NHL stars fans would want to see in Season 2 of FACEOFF: Inside the NHL feat. Jacob Trouba
Amazon Prime Video unveiled the first season of the documentary series "FACEOFF: Inside the NHL" in 2024. The six-episode series was a great success, providing fans with access to the lives of several NHL stars on and off the ice.
The debut season of the show followed some of the league's brightest stars, including William Nylander, David Pastrnak, Filip Forsberg, Jack Eichel, Matthew Tkachuk, Jeremy Swayman, Connor McDavid, and Leon Draisaitl.
It was announced on Thursday morning that the hit show will have a second season and that Brady Tkachuk will be one of the players starring in it. The other players that will be included in season two will be unveiled at a future date.
This has everyone speculating: who else will be joining Tkachuk in the docuseries for the 2025 NHL season?
7 NHL stars fans would want to see in Season 2 of FACEOFF: Inside the NHL feat. Jacob Trouba
#1. Jacob Trouba
The last few months of Jacob Trouba's career have been a whirlwind. The former New York Rangers captain was in trade rumors throughout the NHL offseason but was unwilling to waive his no-trade clause. This carried over into the 2024-25 campaign, where Trouba and the Rangers struggled, and his name continued to be thrown around in trade talks.
Rangers GM Chris Drury then forced Trouba out of town by threatening to waive the blueliner should he not accept any trade. Trouba gave in and was traded to the Anaheim Ducks for Urho Vaakanainen and a fourth-round draft pick. All of this drama would create an excellent behind-the-scenes look at Trouba's season.
#2. Paul Bissonnette
Former NHL player, now TNT hockey analyst, and "Spittin' Chiclets" podcast host Paul Bissonette is one of the great hockey personalities. He's become very popular in his post-playing career and would be a great addition to FACEOFF: Inside the NHL.
Now add on top of that the recent altercation where Biz was assaulted by six other men at Houston's restaurant in Arizona. The story and videos of the altercation have gone viral on social media, making for a tremendous opportunity to show even more of the crazy night Bissonnette had.
#3. Mitch Marner
Mitch Marner is one of the more polarizing players in the NHL. A Maple Leaf star born and raised in Toronto has been a great story since day one. His regular-season brilliance has captivated Leaf fans, but the team's failure to win in the playoffs and his struggles to produce in those moments has created a controversy.
Marner has been the scapegoat for the Maple Leafs playoff disappointments, leading to many fans wanting him gone. His name has been speculated in trade discussions for several offseasons, and now, entering the final year of his contract, it's only gotten louder.
#4. Alex Ovechkin
Who wouldn't want to see the great eight's chase of Wayne Gretzky's goal record? One of the NHL's all-time great players, Alex Ovechkin, came into the season 41 goals behind Gretzky's 894 career goals. At age 39, there have been questions about whether he could catch him this year. Ovi silenced the doubters with a blazing-hot start to the season, scoring 15 goals in his first 18 games.
An injury has sidelined the Russian winger since, but his torrid start has him just 26 goals away from greatness. What a storyline that would be for season two of the hit show.
#5. Sidney Crosby
How about another all-time great? At 37 years old, Sidney Crosby continues to dominate. Every point he registers climbs Sid higher on all the all-time NHL points leaderboards. The Penguins have been a fascinating team to keep track of, attempting to make one last run with their core of Crosby, Malkin, and Letang.
Their season has had major highs and lows already; how is one of the most accomplished players we've ever seen handling the adversity?
#6. Steven Stamkos
The former captain of the Tampa Bay Lightning for 11 seasons, Steven Stamkos, was the talk of the offseason. Leaving his longtime home for the Nashville Predators shocked the hockey world. It was a free-agent signing that was hard for fans even to process.
So, how did Stamkos handle it? And how has he dealt with the Predators' (9-17-6) slow start to the season that has them tied for last in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks (24 points)?
#7. Jack Hughes
Lastly, some youth for the younger generation of hockey fans. The 23-year-old Jack Hughes is one of the most dynamic and entertaining players in the NHL. His skill on the ice and personality off the ice make him a logical option for the show.
All of this is to say that NHL fans can't wait to see who they'll be following behind the scenes for season two of "FACEOFF: Inside the NHL."
