Linus Ullmark: A Brief Biography

Linus Ullmark
Linus Ullmark

Linus Ullmark, born on July 31, 1993, in Lugnvik, Sweden, is a goaltеndеr for the Boston Bruins, and previously played for the Buffalo Sabrеs in thе National Hockey League (NHL). Ullmark was selected by the Buffalo Sabrеs as thе 163rd ovеrall pick in the sixth round of thе 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

The Buffalo Sabres signed Ullmark to a three-year, entry-level contract on May 27, 2014. During the 2014–15 season, he was loaned back to Modo Hockey in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).

In 117 career games with the Sabres, Ullmark recorded a 50-47-13 record, a 2.78 goals-against average, and a.912 save percentage. Ullmark was re-signed by the Sabres on August 3, 2019, for a one-year deal worth $1.325 million. Ullmark and the Sabres agreed to a one-year, $2.6 million contract on October 25, 2020.

As a free agent, Ullmark signed a $20 million, four-year contract to become the starting goalie for the Boston Bruins on July 28, 2021, after leaving the Sabres. On October 22, 2021, Ullmark made his Bruins regular-season debut in a 4-1 victory over the Sabres.

The 2022–2023 season was momentous for both the Bruins and Ullmark, who, along with Jeremy Swayman, made the finest goaltender duo in the league. The post-victory "goalie hug" between Ullmark and Swayman gained widespread media attention as a team tradition. Along with head coach Jim Montgomery and player David Pastrňák, Ullmark was selected as one of three Boston Bruins representatives to the 2023 NHL All-Star Weekend.

In the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs, the Bruins lost a 3-1 series lead over the Florida Panthers. Due to criticism for keeping goaltender Ullmark out of the lineup despite his injury, coach Montgomery was held accountable. Ullmark stood up for Montgomery, saying he was looking for someone to blame.
