New Jersey Devils vs Edmonton Oilers: Preview
New Jersey is coming off a shutout loss to Calgary on Friday, following a 6-0 Vancouver win Wednesday.
The Devils have been one of the best teams in the NHL. Their offense is clicking, and Jacob Markstrom has been stellar in goal. New Jersey has been led by Nico Hischier, who has 15 points; Jesper Bratt has 13 points; Jack Hughes has 12 points; Timo Meier has 12 points; and Stefan Noesen has 12 points.
Edmonton, meanwhile, is coming off a good 4-2 Calgary Flames victory at home on Sunday.
"It's so easy to let games like that slip," goalie Stuart Skinner said, via NHL.co. "It's so easy in the NHL. You let off the gas pedal for two seconds and it's in the back of the net. I think this group, especially from where we came last year and where we want to go the previous years, it's all experience to help you out, and I think it's definitely been very helpful for us in just the sense of being able to finish a game."
The Oilers are without superstar and captain Connor McDavid, who is out for 2-3 weeks with an ankle injury.
Edmonton will need the depth players to step up in his absence. The Oilers are led by Leon Draisaitl (16 points), Connor McDavid (10 points), Mattias Ekholm (9 points), and Evan Bouchard (7 points).
Devils vs Oilers: Betting Odds & Prediction
New Jersey is a -122 favorite while Edmonton is a +102 underdog. The over/under is set at 6.5 goals.
The Devils will be well-rested here. New Jersey hasn't played since Friday and is coming off a frustrating loss to Calgary. Hence, the Devils will emerge strong and skate to an early lead.
Edmonton, meanwhile, is coming off a win over the Flames on Sunday, and the Oilers will have tired legs on the back-to-back. While a close game is on the cards, the Devils can edge out a road win here.
Prediction: Devils 3, Oilers 2.
