The New York Rangers is a renowned ice hockey team based in New York City that competes in the Metropolitan division of the Eastern Conference in the National Hockey League (NHL). The Rangers share their iconic home venue, Madison Square Garden, with the New York Knicks, of the National Basketball League (NBA).

Established in 1926, the Rangers are one of the "Original Six" teams that played in 1926 before the NHL expansion. The team is currently owned by Madison Square Garden Sports with James Dolan serving as a chairman.

The New York Rangers have four Stanley Cup victories that occurred in 1927-1928, 1932-1933, 1939-1940, and in 1993-1994. In the 1927-1928 season, they played against the Montreal Canadiens in their first Stanley Cup Finals appearance. Notably, it was only their second year in operation. In the 1932-1933 season, the Rangers won the series 3-1, claiming their second Stanley Cup against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Next, In 1939-1940, they faced the Toronto Maple Leafs and won the series 4–2, claiming their third Stanley Cup. Notable players during these triumphs include Bill Cook, Lester Patrick, Frank Boucher and Bryan Hextall.

However, the team struggled to appear in the playoffs between the 1940s and 1960s, which would later be notoriously known as the curse years. After the 1970s, the Rangers managed to make it to the Stanley Cup Final twice but failed against the Boston Bruins in 1972 and the Montreal Canadiens in 1979. In the early 1990s, they made a strategic decision to rejuvenate the team which ultimately worked out in 1993-1994.

In 1993-1994, players like Mark Messier at centre, Adam Graves at left wing, Steve Larmer at right wing, Sergei Zubov at defenseman and goalie Mike Richter helped the Rangers defeat the Canucks in 7 games. This is their last Stanley Cup Championship till date.
