"4 goals against Germany is not a good sign": Fans left unimpressed after USA's 10-4 blowout win over Germany at 2025 World Junior Championship opener

ARJUN B

Team USA kicked off their 2025 World Junior Championship campaign with a convincing 10-4 victory over Germany on Dec 26. However, the win has sparked concerns among hockey fans about the team's defensive capabilities.

The American offensive firepower was on full display, with James Hagens, Gale Perreault and Brodie Ziemer each netting two goals in the rout. However, allowing four goals against a traditionally weaker German squad has raised eyebrows about the USA's gold medal aspirations.

One fan tweeted:

"4 goals against vs one of the weakest teams in the tourny. No one is impressed."

Another fan wrote:

"Defense needs to be fixed..I know we won big but allowing 4 goals against Germany is not a Good sign. Sweden, Canada, Czech Republic are some strong teams."

Here are some fan reactions:

"The USA better tighten up their goaltending if they wanna do anything in this tournament" one fan wrote,
"Yay for offensive production but wtf is going on with defense. I was hoping to be a Trey Augustine fan for once but it seems that will not be happening" a user commented.
"Giving up for 4 to Germany ain’t decent." another fan wrote.

Trevor Connelly, Brandon Svoboda, Carey Terrance, Cole Eiserman also scored for USA. Trey Augustine saved 18 shots for the U.S.

Lenny Boos, Julius Sumpf, David Lewandowski, and Timo Ruckdaschel scored for team Germany.

USA HC David Carle on 10-4 win over Germany

USA head coach David Carle was pleased with his team's performance in their 10-4 win over Germany at the World Junior Championship.

Carle, who currently coaches at the University of Denver, felt the victory was an important step for the young American squad.

"I thought overall we did a lot of good things and we'll continue to grow and build," Carle said. "It was good to get a win under our belt and we'll turn our focus now to playing Latvia on Saturday."

Team USA will look to build on the win when they face Latvia on Saturday, while Germany will look to rebound against Finland on Friday.
