Alexei Kolosov speaks out about poor treatment at Flyers’ affiliate Phantoms leading to his departure

Alexei Kolosov had a tough time playing for the Philadelphia Flyers' AHL team, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He felt isolated staying alone in a hotel and his limited English added to it. Adjusting to a new culture was hard for him. These factors led to his decision not to return.

"They put him in the hotel by himself & he felt isolated, especially since his English isn’t great," Tony Androckitis shared on X.

Tony Androckitis of Inside AHL Hockey says Kolosov's dissatisfaction adds to uncertainty about his future. The Flyers' plans for him are unclear. The Lehigh Valley Phantoms are looking forward to signing Keith Petruzzelli on an AHL deal, along with Cal Petersen and Parker Gahagen, to strengthen their goaltending depth.

Petruzzelli, who has played in both the AHL and ECHL, had a tough season with the Toronto Marlies last year. The Phantoms’ move to add him might be a precaution if Kolosov doesn’t return.

Although Kolosov is under contract with the Flyers, preventing him from joining another team without permission, rumors suggest he may try to end his contract due to homesickness and lack of playtime.

The Reading Royals, who don’t have a signed goaltender for next season, might be a potential option for Kolosov if he returns to North America. However, the Flyers and Alexei Kolosov have not confirmed any changes yet. They expect Kolosov to attend training camp in September.

Flyers reassign Alexei Kolosov to AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms

On April 2, 2024, the Philadelphia Flyers reassigned goaltender Alexei Kolosov from Dinamo Minsk in the KHL to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the AHL.

Kolosov, from Minsk, Belarus, had a solid season with Dinamo Minsk. He posted a 22-21-3 record with a 2.39 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage. Early in the season, he achieved three shutouts in his first 10 games and had two three-game win streaks.

Over his career with Dinamo Minsk, Alexei Kolosov earned 49 wins and six shutouts in 120 KHL games. The Flyers drafted him in 2021 and he signed an entry-level contract in July 2023.
