"Best jersey of all time": Hockey fans react to Capitals Screaming Eagle jersey for 50th anniversary season

The Washington Capitals will wear a special black Screaming Eagle jersey for six home games in the 2024-25 season. This jersey celebrates the team’s 50th anniversary and features a blue, black, and bronze color scheme, with the U.S. Capitol building on the shoulder. The design is inspired by a different Capitals jersey first introduced in 1995.

Fans quickly reacted on X, formerly known as Twitter, after the announcement.

"Used to pray for times like this," One fan tweeted, showing excitement for the return of the classic look.
"Would be a great gift for my dad as he knew George the guy in the 90’s that drove the Zambodi," one fan said.
"You guys gotta stop limiting the demographic for this giveaways? What about all the fans outside of DC who support the caps? I’m in Canada but am never able to win giveaways," a fan wrote.

The new jerseys have generated a lot of positive feedback. Here are some more reactions from NHL fans on X:

"I’m a Wings fan but this is the best sweater you guys have. Absolutely love it," another fan wrote.
"Best jersey of all time. Would love to cheer on the Caps (and Bears!) this year rocking one of these!" a fan said.
"When me and my son (today 11) visited 2018/19 season a Caps game, flew in from Europe, they ve won the cup- might be a good omen, to have us win this jersey this year 😀🤷‍♂️ lets go caps. PS made a few pics with Ovi, Lars during the shop re opening, while met Mr Bondra 👊," another said.

  • Nashville Predators (Wednesday, Nov. 6)
  • New York Islanders (Friday, Nov. 29)
  • Boston Bruins (Tuesday, Dec. 31)
  • Pittsburgh Penguins (Saturday, Jan. 18)
  • Winnipeg Jets (Saturday, Feb. 1)
  • Columbus Blue Jackets (Sunday, April 13)

The design blends the third jersey with the original rebrand. It features a downward-swooping eagle, symbolizing energy and power, and includes the U.S. Capitol building and crossed hockey sticks on the shoulder patch.

Starting Thursday, Oct. 10, fans can buy the jerseys online at NHLShop.com and NHLShop.ca.
