Carolina Matovac reacts to Nicholle Anderson's emotional message on Rasmus Dahlin becoming Sabres captain
After former captain Kyle Okposo was traded to the Florida Panthers, the Buffalo Sabres named Rasmus Dahlin their captain for the 2024-25 season.
Former NHLer Craig Anderson’s wife, Nicholle, took to Instagram to congratulate Dahlin and his girlfriend, Craolina Matovac, after he was elected captain. Craig and Rasmus had been teammates during the goaltender’s time in Buffalo.
Nicholle mentioned how Dahlin once persuaded her and Anderson to stay one more year in Buffalo.
“To the guy that convinced me in your cute Swedish accent, 'We need Andy another year!' Congrats to @rasmusdahlinn and @carolinamatovac on Captain! Two wonderful people to lead! #letsgobuffalo,” she wrote on Instagram.
Carolina Matovac reshared the story on her Instagram and wrote how much she missed the couple.
“😢💙💛 We miss you!” Matovac wrote.
The Buffalo Sabres have failed to make the playoffs since 2010-11 and Rasmus Dahlin would be looking to change that streak in the upcoming season. Earlier on Thursday, Matovac herself penned an emotional message for her partner, congratulating his achievement.
“I'm so beyond proud of you and everything you have accomplished so far! Can't wait for this season to start!" she wrote in her Instagram story.
Carolina shared a tribute video from the Buffalo Sabres’ account and added in the caption,
“I love you so much! 💙”
Rasmus Dahlin’s girlfriend Carolina Matovac is an active philanthropist in Buffalo
While Carolina Matovac is publicly known as Rasmus Dahlin’s girlfriend, she is also an active volunteer at GiGi's Playhouse in Buffalo. Since moving to the city, Matovac has been an important patron of the center dedicated to supporting children with Down Syndrome.
In an interview with 7 News last year, Carolina opened up on why she chose Gigi’s Playhouse and how she wanted to have her own identity and do what she believes in.
"You know I’m always going to be Rasmus's girlfriend. And I love to be his girlfriend. But I also want to be my own person. And do my own thing. So I love that I’m able to do something that I care about and love. And knowing it's for me and by me with no one else involved," she said.
She mentioned that many people might think they need to feel sorry for children with Down Syndrome, but that's not the case. They are some of the happiest and most loving people she’s met.
Originally from Sweden, Carolina Matovac moved to Buffalo and realized she wanted to give back to the community. Both Matovac and Dahlin are recognized patrons of the non-profit organization.
