Chris Johnston compares Toronto Maple Leafs to $10.32 billion-valued NFL team's recently disappointing forms

TSN hockey insider Chris Johnston compared the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Dallas Cowboys who are valued at $10.32 billion, per Sportico. On a TSN broadcast with Bryan Hayes and Frank Corrado, Johnston discussed the similarities between the two teams.

Johnston noted that the Cowboys and the Maple Leafs have strong regular seasons but struggle in the playoffs. He said:

(7:26) "You can make the case that the Cowboys have had a number of encouraging regular seasons under their current leadership but really haven't achieved much come playoff time.
"When you compare the market size, the interest in the team, and the kind of history of the organizations, I can understand the parallel with the Leafs. The Leafs are a team that has been in the top five in games won over the last seven regular seasons combined but only have one playoff series victory to show for it with this core."

The Maple Leafs were eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs by the Boston Bruins in a Game 7 overtime loss. This was their fourth loss in a Game 7 against the Bruins and their sixth straight series-deciding game defeat. Despite making the playoffs for eight straight seasons, they have only one series win in the past two decades.

The Cowboys have had a mixed performance in the past decade. They have had several playoff appearances but also missed the playoffs and lost key games. For example, in 2023, they had a 12-5 record but lost in the wild card round.

NHL.com analyzes Toronto Maple Leafs' goalie concerns and Max Domi's optimism

NHL.com is examining the Toronto Maple Leafs in its team previews. One key issue is Joseph Woll's ability to stay healthy and secure the No. 1 goalie position after Ilya Samsonov left for the Vegas Golden Knights.

Woll, 26, has struggled with injuries, playing only 36 regular-season games in his three-year career. His most recent injury during the last playoffs against Boston kept him from starting Game 7.

On the other hand, Max Domi, who re-signed with the Leafs on July 1 for four years at $15 million, is hopeful about the team’s future.

"Look around our room, at all the skill and leadership," Domi said (via NHL.com). "We're all encouraged at what lies ahead."

Domi believes the team can overcome its recent playoff setbacks, including the Game 7 loss to Boston. He has already practiced with teammates and feels a strong determination within the group to focus on future success and put past disappointments behind them.
