"Clown org considering a clown for GM? Brilliant": Fans thrash idea of Sean Avery becoming NY Rangers GM after "rumblings" of meeting with James Dolan
Former NHL player Paul Bissonnette suggested Sean Avery could replace Chris Drury as the New York Rangers general manager. On the "Spittin' Chiclets" podcast, Bissonnette shared rumors of Avery meeting with team owner James Dolan to discuss the Rangers. He mentioned that Dolan’s unpredictable nature could lead to bold decisions, including hiring Avery as GM.
"I'm also hearing rumblings that Sean Avery is going over to NYC to meet with James Dolan to talk about the state of the New York Rangers. There is a crazy element to James Dolan that my content dream might get rid of Drury and hire Sean Avery as the next general manager of the New York Rangers," Bissonnette said (via Spittin' Chiclets).
Sean Avery, who played six seasons with the Rangers, reportedly confirmed his trip to New York for talks. This speculation comes as the Rangers face a challenging season. The team has only three wins in its last 14 games and is ranked sixth in the Metropolitan Division with a 15-15-1 record. Players are reportedly unhappy with Drury rather than coach Peter Laviolette.
Fans reacted strongly on X (formerly Twitter) to the idea of Avery becoming GM.
"Clown organization considering a clown for its GM? Brilliant," one fan said.
"Rangers do need an Avery like player on the team. They come out stale and slow. Need a edgy player with hands to score 10-25 goals and annoy the opponents," another fan commented.
"at this point this team is such a mess that this is the only thing that would make this season even remotely interesting," one X user said.
Some fans mocked the situation. Take a look at a few more reactions from fans on X.
"Worst idea I’ve ever heard, make it happen," a fan said.
"Lmfao imagine Sean Avery as your GM," a fan commented.
"LMFAO if this happens no one will want to be a ranger," a fan tweeted.
