"Cutest little boys": Johnny Gaudreau's wife Meredith reacts to Philadelphia flyers’s heartfelt tribute to Gaudreau brothers
On Sunday, Johnny Gaudreau’s wife, Meredith, shared two Instagram stories about a tribute from the Philadelphia Flyers. The tribute happened on Saturday before the Flyers's matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The first image Meredith shared showed the Gaudreau family on the ice at Wells Fargo Center. Johnny’s parents, Guy and Jane, his son Johnny Jr., his wife Meredith and his sister Katie were all present. Guy Gaudreau dropped the ceremonial first puck.
Columbus Blue Jackets forward Sean Monahan and Flyers forward Scott Laughton were present for the puck drop. The Gaudreau family — wearing Flyers jerseys — was displayed on the large screen above the rink and the crowd watched in a respectful and quiet atmosphere.
Meredith also posted a video of the arena’s big screen. The screen showed a childhood photo of Johnny and his late brother Matthew in hockey uniforms. The text on the screen read,
“Miss you John & Matty so much, cutest little boys I’ve ever seen.”
Meredith shared her thanks to the Flyers for the tribute.
The tribute honored Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew, who tragically passed away earlier this year. In August 2023, both brothers died in a bike crash in New Jersey. The Flyers’ tribute was a touching moment for the Gaudreau family and a sign of support from the hockey community.
Johnny Gaudreau's sister Katie shared pictures remembering her brothers
The deaths of Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau gave an emotional shock to the NHL community. Since then, the Gaudreau family has shared memories of the brothers several times. On Friday, Johnny's sister, Katie, posted a throwback picture on Instagram of a signed jersey she received when she was six. The jersey was signed by Johnny's team.
Katie also shared a favorite memory of Johnny. She recalled when Johnny jokingly pretended to fight her at a bar. The bouncer misunderstood the situation and tried to kick Johnny out. Katie defended her brother,
"I proceeded to cry (not surprised) and try to explain how we are brother and sister and were just joking, he didn’t care," Katie shared in caption. "I said to the bouncer ‘you kick him out… you kick me out"
And they were both kicked out. They later crashed a friend's bachelorette party, which Katie mentioned,
"Mer and Dev were over our nonsense but took the trip to Sea Isle to crash Kristen’s friends bachelorette party. Best night ever."
Earlier on Dec. 3, the Calgary Flames also held a tribute for Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew at Scotiabank Saddledome.
