"Don't really like this"; "Massive W": Habs fans divided after Montreal Canadiens trade Justin Barron for Alexandre Carrier
The Montreal Canadiens' decision to trade Justin Barron to the Nashville Predators for Alexandre Carrier has sparked a mixed reaction among their fan base.
Barron has scored one goal in 17 games this season with the Canadiens. He was traded to Montreal from the Colorado Avalanche in March 2022 in exchange for Arturri Lehkonen.
Barron has accumulated 31 points through 13 goals and 18 assists in 111 NHL career games.
One fan saw the trade as a loss:
"Don't really like this.”
Another fan viewed the trade as a clear win:
“Massive W”
Here are some more reactions from fans on X:
"Very happy for Justin Barron. He’ll get to play a lot more and develop at his pace. Carrier is a pretty good return tbh," one fan said.
"Carrier was a fan favorite in Nashville, sad to see him go. He is solid defensively with some offensive skill too. Montreal, you will love him. Can you tell me anything good about JB? I know absolutely nothing about him other than he has one point this year," another fan wrote.
"Biggest one for one trade between the Habs and Preds in NHL history," another fan commented.
"We need to make space for our younger guys and sadly barron isn't one of them," another fan wrote.
At 28 years old, Carrier brings more experience to the Canadiens' blue line than the younger Barron. He has posted seven points in 28 games for Nashville this season while averaging over 20 minutes of ice time per game.
While Canadiens fans may be divided on the trade, it’s a relatively minor move for a Montreal team focused on rebuilding.
NHL analyst's take on Canadiens' trade of Justin Barron for Alexandre Carrier
NHL analyst Apron Basu of The Athletic weighed in on the recent trade between the Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.
Basu noted that the 23-year-old is a skilled skater with a good shot and offensive instincts. However, he pointed out that Barron has struggled on his end at times, showing indecision and a lack of assertiveness in defensive situations.
"Barron is a good skater with a decent shot and strong offensive instincts, but his game in his own end has suffered from moments of indecision and a lack of assertiveness in killing plays, leading to extended shifts in the defensive zone," Basu said via The Athletic.
Basu added that if Justin Barron can develop the defensive side of his game, he has the potential to quarterback a second power play unit and contribute offensively from the second or third defensive pairing down the road.
