Elliotte Friedman offers stern life advice to Elias Pettersson regarding friends and family who send him media criticism
On the October 25 episode of the 32 Thoughts podcast, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman gave Elias Pettersson strong advice on handling criticism from the media.
Speaking with co-host Kyle Bukauskas, Friedman suggested that Pettersson set clear boundaries with friends and family who pass along negative media comments.
"I'm going to give you a piece of advice here," Friedman said. "The next time a family member says to you, or a friend says to you, this is what this person said about you on television, tell them, if they do it one more time they are you are cutting them off from communication".
He explained that people often make media comments sound worse than they are.
"And he laughed. I go, 'No, I'm serious, because I guarantee to you, those people make it sound worse than that'. It really is. They warp it. They always make it sound worse than reality," Friedman added.
Pettersson has had a slow start this season, with just three assists and nine shots in six games.
Recently, he also had a tense moment at practice with teammate J.T. Miller. Canucks management has encouraged Pettersson to adopt a tougher style of play.
As the Canucks prepare to face the Penguins, all eyes will be on Elias Pettersson's response. Balancing criticism with support will be key as he looks to regain his form. The game will start at 7:00 PM PDT on 26th of October.
Elias Pettersson's subpar performance against Blackhawks, but Vancouver won the game 6-3
In Vancouver’s 6-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks, Elias Pettersson had a quiet game.
He logged one assist, took just one shot on goal, and played for 18:25 minutes. Other Canucks players led the scoring, with Danton Heinen scoring twice and J.T. Miller adding a goal and two assists.
Pettersson’s main contribution was his assist on Conor Garland’s goal in the second period, giving Vancouver a 4-2 lead.
Coach Rick Tocchet praised the team for scoring six goals and the overall depth in scoring, including power-play success.
“It’s nice to get power-play goals. So yeah, overall you’re happy. Overall I’m happy with the game.” Tocchet said per NHL.com
However, the Canucks may hope for more offensive plays from Elias Pettersson in future games.
