"I don't think there's any question": Craig Button thinks 'elite' Cole Caufield is locked in for 30+ goals in 2024
Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield is having a strong start to the 2024 season. He has scored four goals in three games. Many fans believe he could have a breakout year.
TSN analyst Craig Button thinks Caufield can score 30 or more goals this NHL season.
Button praised Caufield’s performance last season on Sunday's TSN broadcast:
"I don't think there's any question that he's capable of scoring 30 and ultimately, 40. When you consider Cole Caulfield last year, there was some, I guess, eyebrows raised for me about people saying that he didn't have a good year. I thought he had a fantastic year. I thought he rounded out his game."
Caufield ranked seventh in the league for shots on goal. His inner slot shots were 13th in the league. His shooting percentage was lower than expected, which led to 28 goals.
"But he's an elite goal scorer." Button said, "This goal is, I mean, that's the English Hallmark. Gives him that top part of the net. But a great goal scorer can pick that spot. That's exactly what Caulfield does.
"So when you watch him play, and even on this one, I mean, he gives himself the room. Just follows it right in there no question that he's been an elite goal scorer all the way through. He's shown the signs of being an elite goal scorer. When you start to talk about goals per game, I don't think there's any question in a healthy year that he'll score 30 and absolutely is capable of scoring."
Button believes Cole Caufield will have better luck this season. He thinks Caufield can reach 30 goals and possibly score more after showing signs of being an elite goal scorer.
