Connor McDavid and others still recovering from Game 7 loss

The Edmonton Oilers are reeling from their heartbreaking Game 7 loss in the Stanley Cup Final to the Florida Panthers. Despite a strong effort, fighting an uphill battle from a 3-0 series deficit, the Oilers fell 2-1 in the decisive game, missing out on their first championship since 1990.

Connor McDavid, who won the Conn Smythe Trophy with 42 points in 25 playoff games, said:

“It’ll take some time to get over, but at the end of the day, you are going to have to get over it at some point, and we’re going to carry on and get ourselves ready for another important season and get ourselves ready to do it all over again, and that’s all you can do.
“Will there be a time to look back? Yeah. There were lots of happy moments throughout those playoffs for sure, a lot of great moments that I’ll remember for the rest of my life."

The Oilers' journey to the final was remarkable, overcoming a rough start that led to the firing of coach Jay Woodcroft. They reached the final for the first time since 2006, rallying the entire country behind them.

Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl said:

“It’s obviously disappointing. You can’t really be much closer than we were, and if you’re that close I think it stings a little extra sometimes. We obviously accomplished a lot this year. I’m really proud of the way we’ve... always seem to find a way to bounce back..."

Despite the setback, Connor McDavid remains optimistic for another run at the Stanley Cup next season.
