John Tavares was among the many stars from the world of hockey to come out for the annual Boots and Hearts Barn Burner charity game. This all-star game seeks to bring the best of the NHL, including Tavares and Andrew Mangiapane, and the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL). The best of hockey was largely in one spot on Aug. 7.

The Toronto Maple Leafs captain starred, and Mental Health Hockey shared clips to their Instagram story. They showed off behind-the-scenes action as well as some of the gameplay on the ice.

Giveaways offered to fans included a Domino's gift card, a Glow Day Spa certificate for $420, dinner at PIE Woodfired Pizza, a North Swing Golf Lounge night out and signed memorabilia. Mayor Alex Nuttall was involved with the charity event as well, and it proved to be a huge success.

John Tavares Foundation donates over $30,000 to backpack program

Toronto Maple Leafs star John Tavares founded a charity foundation four years ago. It just donated $37,500 to the PIE Education backpack program this month. This program seeks to provide backpacks with school supplies to Toronto-area children who need them.

Tavares' foundation said on Instagram about the donation:

"We are thrilled to share that the John Tavares Foundation has donated $37,500 to the PIE Education backpack program for 2024! This achievement would not have been possible without your unwavering generosity and belief in our mission."

Toronto Housing handled the distribution, giving the backpacks to children in underserved communities. The foundation has also donated $50,000 to the Ballantyne Project and $20,000 to the Alexandra Park Project. Tavares, the Maple Leafs captain, and his wife began this foundation and still run it together.
