Jeremy Swayman contract breakdown: Signing bonuses, trade clause & more
On Sunday, Jeremy Swayman signed an eight-year, $66 million contract with the Boston Bruins.
The Bruins expect Swayman to be their top goalie.
Contract summary:
- Term: 8 years (2024-2032)
- Total Value: $66 million
- Average Annual Value: $8.25 million
- Signing or performance bonuses: $23M million
- Includes No Trade Clause
Below is the breakdown of the contract.
Swayman’s previous contract was a one-year, $3.475 million deal, decided through arbitration in 2023. This deal locks Swayman in as a key part of Boston’s plans.
Jeremy Swayman will not play the season opener against the Panthers
Jeremy Swayman will not start in the Bruins' season opener against the Florida Panthers, per The Athletic's Fluto Shinzawa.
"Swayman will not start Tuesday’s regular-season opener against the Florida Panthers. Coach Jim Montgomery has already designated Joonas Korpisalo as the Game 1 starter," Shinzawa wrote.
Swayman may need some time to get ready after missing training camp. Once Swayman’s prepared, he and Korpisalo will likely become the full-time goalie duo for Boston.
Swayman’s new contract might seem high for a goalie who's not a full-time starter yet. However, his strong play over the last two seasons, especially in 2023-24 when he took on a bigger role, increased his value. He was 25-10-8 with a 2.53 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage. He had a .933 SV% in 12 games in the playoffs.
Jeremy Swayman's message for Bruins fans
Jeremy Swayman thanked fans in a video shared by Bruins on X on Tuesday for their support. He said he’s excited to be back.
"Hey fans, 'Sway' here," Swayman said in the video. "I'm so excited to be back. I cannot thank you for all of your support throughout this entire process but we got a lot of new beginnings to start and I cannot wait to get going."
Drafted by the Bruins in 2017, Swayman has been a key player for the team. He was 79-33-15 with a 2.34 GAA and a .919 SV%.
