Leon Draisaitl's new contract is a positive step for Oilers' Stanley Cup expectations

Leon Draisaitl, 28, will play his 11th season with the Edmonton Oilers this fall. Draisaitl received the contract extension prior to the start of his final season on an eight-year, $68 million contract signed in 2017.

Now with the extension done, Draisaitl will be pumped up in the upcoming season. This is a positive move considering they lost in Game 7 of Stanley Cup finals last season. Edmonton is expecting another great season, and this move will ensure Draisaitl's focus.

"This is a historic day for the Edmonton Oilers," Bowman said. "Leon's commitment to our team, our city and Oilers fans everywhere cannot be overstated. His desire to help bring a Stanley Cup title home to Edmonton is central to everything he does both on and off the ice." (via NHL.com)

Last season, Leon Draisaitl scored 106 points (41 goals, 65 assists), ranking seventh in the NHL. He also had 31 points in 25 playoff games. Draisaitl ranks second in points and goals in the NHL since 2018-19, only behind fellow teammate Connor McDavid and Toronto Maple Leafs' captain Auston Matthews.
