Maple Leafs Halloween Party headlined by Matthews' Darth Vader getup, Morgan Rielly, wife Tessa's Beetlejuice-inspired costumes
Toronto Maple Leafs players celebrated Halloween in full spirit with a costume party on Wednesday. It was attended by the players and their partners, and everyone geared up in iconic Halloween attire.
Leafs captain Auston Matthews stole the show, dressing up as Darth Vader from Star Wars. Matthews posted a carousel of pictures, including a Polaroid where he wore Vader’s black armor, cape and helmet, while holding up a red lightsaber.
Defenseman Morgan Rielly and his wife, Tessa Virtue, were also in attendance. The couple dressed up as Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz from the horror movie franchise. Tessa posted a series of pictures on her Instagram, featuring the couple’s get-up. The final picture posted by Tessa showed the full party of guests at the Leafs' Halloween get-together.
Other couples also brought in their own unique costumes to the party including a roller-skating disco pair from the '70s. One couple geared up as pumpkins, another as Dwight and Angela from "The Office," and someone dressed as Daenerys Targaryen from "Game of Thrones." Several of them brought the magic of Harry Potter to life with Hogwarts robes representing different houses.
Fans react to Timothy Liljegren attending Maple Leafs Halloween party hours before trade
The Maple Leafs traded D-man Timothy Liljegren to the San Jose Sharks for Matt Benning and two future draft picks on Wednesday. Fans were quick to notice Liljegren at the Leafs' Halloween party and many speculated if he was aware of the trade beforehand.
Once pictures from the Maple Leafs’ Halloween party started making rounds on different social media platforms, fans let their feelings known in the comments. Following are some fan reactions from X:

“You have to think he would at least be anticipating a trade, no? It would be very unprofessional for them to not have told him at this point,” quipped one user.

The 25-year-old defenseman penned a heartfelt message for Maple Leafs fans and the organization, thanking them for the many memories over the course of his seven-year tenure. He also expressed his excitement at joining the Sharks in the same post.
