Maple Leafs’ Ryan Reaves steals spotlight with his appearance at former teammate’s wedding
On Sunday, Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer Ryan Reaves attended the wedding of former teammate Adam Fox. According to Hockey News, Reaves made a bold statement at the event by taking photos shirtless.
Of course, Reaves dressed appropriately for the event. Reaves was said to have arrived at the event wearing a white shirt and pants.
However, he rocked the shirtless look, donning a pair of sunglasses for pics on social media. The fashion statement was all in good fun as Fox and Reaves become close friends during Reaves’ time with the New York Rangers.
Fox and Reaves spent roughly two seasons together before Reaves was traded to the Minnesota Wild. Reaves then signed a free-agent deal to join the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, Fox and Reaves have been close since.
Reaves’ unusual attire showcased his willingness to go off the beaten path. Reaves has never been “conventional.” He has demonstrated he’s not afraid to take chances on or off the ice.
This time, it was a bold fashion statement that showcased the Reaves that players across the league respect and admire.
A Tale of Two Seasons for Ryan Reaves
Reaves will be looking to get back into the swing of things this upcoming fall following an up-and-down year with the Leafs. During the first part of the season, Reaves was in the doghouse after being inconsistent on the ice.
After a stint as a healthy scratch, Reaves found his game and became a meaningful contributor to Toronto’s bottom six.
The Hockey News captured Reaves’ sentiment regarding last season with the following words:
“It was a tale of two seasons for me, and hopefully, it’s more of the second half next year.”
These words underscore Reaves’ optimism despite what most will say was a down year. In the end, Reaves finished last season, having played in 49 games while contributing six points. The most telling statistic was his minus-13 rating.
Nevertheless, Leafs fans should see Reaves in the lineup sometime this upcoming season. General manager Brad Treliving has tried to build a team that won't be easy to play against. That’s where Reaves fits into the picture. He’s the type of player who opponents don’t like facing.
But beyond his toughness on the ice, Reaves is a respected personality in the locker room. Younger players look up to him, while his peers appreciate the value he brings to the table.
Reaves will hopefully build on the success of the end of last season as the Leafs look to bring home the team’s first Stanley Cup in five decades.
