"Nathan MacKinnon is better": Chel fans divided on Connor McDavid's 97 OVR topping NHL 25 centers ranking
Chel fans are reacting to Connor McDavid's 97 OVR rating in the NHL 25 centers ranking. McDavid, captain of the Edmonton Oilers, has an impressive resume, including five Art Ross Trophies and a Conn Smythe Trophy.
The Oilers see Connor McDavid as the top player, and his NHL 25 rating reflects this. McDavid has 982 points in 645 games and is close to becoming the 99th player in NHL history to hit 1,000 points. He could do it in fewer games than most, trailing only Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Mike Bossy.
EA SPORTS NHL’s announcement on X (formerly Twitter) has led to fan debates about whether Connor McDavid deserves the top spot or if other players should be considered.
Here are some reactions from NHL fans on X.
"Nathan MacKinnon is better than Connor McDavid," one fan argued.
"In this relative scale McDavid should probably be a 150 OVR tbh," another commented.
"Why on earth is Mcdavid not rated 99?," one X user said.
Additional fan comments include:
"Mcdavid needs to be 99 he is the greatest talent this league has ever seen and he is the standard. Massive fail by EA again," a fan remarked.
"If McDavid can't get 99 overall then who will? What does a 99 look like if it's not McDavid," another fan wrote.
"Top 3 Centers : McDavid 99 Barkov 97 Draisaitl 96," a fan chimed with his own ratings.
Who ranks high in NHL 25 after Connor McDavid's top spot?
Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche has a 96 OVR rating. Nikita Kucherov is close behind with a 95 OVR. MacKinnon won the Ted Lindsay Award and Hart Trophy after an impressive season and Kucherov earned his second Art Ross Trophy.
Leon Draisaitl and Auston Matthews are tied for third with a 95 OVR. Sidney Crosby, once a Rimouski Oceanic star, is ranked ninth among the centers with a 94 OVR. His new status follows a recent announcement of his two-year contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Noah Dobson is the top-rated QMJHL defenseman with an 89 rating. Other notable QMJHL alumni are Brad Marchand (60th, 89), Nico Hischier (77th, 88), and Jonathan Marchessault (101st, 87). NHL 25 releases on Oct. 4, 2024, for PlayStation and Xbox.
