Nick Robertson injury: Maple Leafs get encouraging update on winger
After all the offseason disputes, Nick Robertson is back with the Toronto Maple Leafs for this season. However, following his agreement to return and set aside his grievances, he encountered some injury issues, missing a practice session due to an upper-body injury.
However, according to David Alter, the hockey player was back on the ice today. Maple Leafs fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as the injury appears to be minor and inconsequential.
Alter reported:
"Nick Robertson is on the ice for the team's morning skate. He missed yesterday's session with an upper-body injury."
The timing for injury is not ideal with the Maple Leafs opening their season on October 9. However, since Robertson is back on the ice, the expectation that he'd be ready by next Wednesday is coming to fruition.
Robertson scored 14 goals and 27 points in 56 regular-season games last season. After requesting a trade, he signed a one-year deal and was reportedly promised more playing time to potentially increase his production this year. That would have been derailed by injury, but the player appears to have dodged any real harm.
Brad Treliving praises Nick Robertson in preseason
Nick Robertson finally agreed to return to the Toronto Maple Leafs for one more season at least. Craig Berube, their head coach, had spoken to him previously about it and a deal was eventually signed.
Now, GM Brad Treliving, who facilitated that deal, is impressed with Robertson's preseason performance. He said via The Leafs Nation:
“He’s shooting it in the net which is great, but to me, even more important is Nick’s 200-foot game. If you look at both the goals last night, they start from great defensive efforts from Nick and you see him killing penalties here right now."
He added that a lot of young players come in with a lot of talent but have to earn the trust of the coach. Treliving also said that they have to know that there are times to shoot and times to look for other plays when the puck isn't going in.
"He’s been real committed away from the puck and has been sort of relentless on his forecheck," he added. "He’s had terrific camp and it’s good to see it.”
Robertson and the Maple Leafs will open their season on October 9 against the Montreal Canadiens.
