"Sabres streak ending tonight?" "Just in time to lose 12 straight": NHL fans react as Rasmus Dahlin returns from injury for Maple Leafs game
It was announced on Friday by Buffalo Sabres Coach Lindy Ruff that his captain, Rasmus Dahlin, will return to the Sabres lineup for tonight's matchup with the Toronto Maple Leafs at KeyBank Center in Buffalo. Dahlin has missed seven consecutive games due to back spasms, and the Sabres have gone 0-5-2 in that stretch. He dealt with the injury in training camp but was good to go to begin the season. After taking several weeks to rest and recover he's now ready to roll.
Despite the return of their captain and top defenseman, some Sabres fans don't seem to be too convinced it will change their team's fortunes, while others celebrated the comeback.
Here is what one Sabres fan had to say on X on Friday. While NHL fans also took time to add their messages.
"So? Just in time to lose 12 straight," one fan wrote.
Another fan showed a little more optimism in their comment.
"Sabres streak ending tonight?" another fan added.
Dahlin, the 24-year-old Swedish defenseman has recorded 19 points (six goals, 13 assists) in 25 games on the year. He'll return to his top pairing, top power-play role as the Sabres welcome him back into action.
Rasmus Dahlin will look to help the Sabres win for the first time since November 23
The Buffalo Sabres are struggling. Having lost 11 straight games, going 0-8-3 in the process, the team and their fans hope Rasmus Dahlin can help stabilize things moving forward.
The Sabres stood at a record of 11-12-2 before Dahlin landed on injured reserve. The team has fallen apart with their captain on the shelf, potentially why their general manager Kevyn Adams has yet to make any drastic changes to the team.
One Sabres fan echoed this sentiment on X today.
"There was no way the Sabres were going to make a major move (or apparently any move) without evaluating how they look with Rasmus Dahlin on the ice," the fan wrote. "And as much as I loathe the Sabres it's a fair point. He's absolutely their best player and has missed the past seven games," the fan added.
Should the Sabres continue to struggle with Rasmus Dahlin back in the lineup, it's fair to anticipate big changes on the horizon in Buffalo.
Dahlin and the Sabres have an opportunity to finally win a game tonight at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The puck drops at 7 p.m. EST.
