"So that means no Swayman?" "Sweeney playing poker on the chess board": NHL fans react to Bruins signing goalie Kasimir Kaskisuo to a PTO

The Boston Bruins have started Training Camp as they prepare for the upcoming 2024-25 NHL season, but one significant member of the roster has yet to make an appearance on the ice.

Goaltender Jeremy Swayman, who played last season on a one-year contract after going to salary arbitration, remains a restricted free agent while the rest of his teammates have gathered at the Warrior Ice Arena in Boston for Camp.

And while Swayman's standoff with Bruins management led by general manager Don Sweeney continues, the team has signed goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo to a professional tryout.

And not long after the signing was announced, Bruins fans across social media began to chime in with their reactions.

"Sweeney is playing poker on the chess board.. I'm kinda here for it tbh", wrote one fan in reaction.
"So everyone is blaming Sweeney for Swayman not signing. But the blame needs to be on both of them 50/50," wrote another fan.
"Im sure the same people who want Swayman to get 9-10 million for 8 years will be the first to complain in two years when it turns out to be a Rick DiPetro situation," added another fan.

Right now, the name at the top of the Bruins goaltending depth chart is Joonas Korpisalo. The Bruins acquired him this summer from the Ottawa Senators in the deal that sent Linus Ullmark to the Canadian capital city.

Kasimir Kaskisuo is the newest face in the Boston crease

A native of Vantaa, Finland, Kasimir Kaskisuo has just two games of NHL experience under his belt. He previously suited up in one game for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2019-20 season followed by a single appearance for the Nashville Predators in the 2020-21 season.

Last season, he played for the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League, amassing 7-4 in 13 games with a 2.90 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage. Overall, his record in the AHL stands at 53-36-10 with a 2.68 goals against average.

The Bruins continue their Training Camp schedule through Sept. 21. They'll hit the ice for the first time in preseason action against the Original Six and Atlantic Division rival New York Rangers on Sept. 22 at TD Garden. They open their regular season on the road against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers on Oct. 8.
