"So much for accountability": Buffalo sports fans irate over Sabres owner Terry Pegula's reported message to struggling hockey club
Amid the Sabres' unending losing streak, which has reached 10 in a row following last weekend's setbacks against the Washington Capitals and the Maple Leafs has left fans infuriated. Team owner and billionaire Terry Pegula travelled to Montreal and addressed the team, according to an update from hockey insider Frank Seravalli.
Fans of the Buffalo Sabres (0-7-3) were expecting some tough decisions from team owner regarding GM Kevyn Adams and newly rehired head coach Lindy Ruff.
As per the sources, Terry Pegula, who has owned the Sabres club since 2011, addressed the team players, saying “We believe in you," and that he's sure that "the solution is within this room.” He also assured players not to expect any major trades. Pegula openly asserted his belief in the abilities of GM Kevyn Adams and Head Coach Lindy Ruff.
Fans were left disappointed and stunned after hearing Terry Pegula's comments in the meeting.
"This has to be satire… please be satire," a fan said.
"So much for accountability," another fan wrote.
"Terry needs to speak with the fans who have all but given up on this organization," one fan wrote.
Here are some more fan reactions from X:
"Bro the NHL has to step in and force the Pegula’s out. This is insanity", said one fan.
"And Buffalo will keep losing , terry and Adams are the problem", exclaimed another fan.
"Ruff was a terrible hire for this team its kinda like pegula doesnt care about winning", a fan reacted.
"If that was the message from Mr. Pegula, he is listening way too much to Adam’s…. It sounds like one of Adam’s pressers…", one fan noted.
The Sabres are currently going through the second-longest playoff drought in the history of the NHL, spanning 13 years. Ever since Pegula acquired the club in February 2011, the Buffalo Sabres have qualified for the playoffs only once.
