"Torts will have him in the AHL by thanksgiving": NHL fans react to Matvei Michkov's Michigan attempt in first Flyers practice

NHL fans on social media reacted to Matvei Michkov's attempt at executing a Michigan goal during his debut practice with the Philadelphia Flyers in the rookie camp. As the 19-year-old Russian tried to find his footing on North American ice, he showcased his skills with a bold play that caught everyone's attention in the building.

Here's a video of the play:

A Michigan goal is when an attacker starts behind the net, lifts the puck onto their stick, and flings the puck into the net.

Although his attempt was swiftly thwarted by defenseman Oliver Bonk, the moment sparked plenty of reactions among fans online.

One fan on X/Twitter joked that Flyers coach John Tortorella will have him shipped out if he continues that kind of play.

"Torts will have him in the AHL by thanksgiving."

Another chimed in:

"Oh yeah, I’m sure Torts is just GOBSMACKED that a rookie with no NHL experience attempted a failed Michigan at rookie camp."
"Torts might be soft now, but 10 years ago, he woulda been glued to the bench or he would be forechecking on the 4th line," another commented.

Some fans compared Michikov to fellow Russian Ivan Demidov of the Montreal Canadiens and Logan Stankoven of the Dallas Stars.

"My demidov would never turn the puck over, let alone try a Michigan. This is why Demidov is better and will have a better career. Hes scoring 30 or 40 and getting the habs to the playoffs. Bookmark this," opined another.
"Dude he hasn't even stepped foot on the NHL ice let's stop comparing. In reality, let's realize stankoven should win the Calder and give him some hype but oh wait he's a stars player and even though the stars are the second best team in the NHL they magically don't get media," one X user commented.

Meanwhile, another fan commented that Michkov might be forcing his way out of Philly after his audacious move to try a Michigan.

"Bro trying to get traded already," one user posted.
