“Trade Petey for Jack Hughes” - NHL fans react as Vancouver Canucks lose to East’s bottom-placed Sabres

ARJUN B

Fans reacted as the Vancouver Canucks suffered a disappointing 3-2 loss on home ice to the Eastern Conference's bottom-ranked Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.

The defeat dropped the Canucks to 20-16-10 on the season and outside a Western Conference wild card playoff spot.

Many fans took to social media to vent their frustrations, with some even calling for drastic changes. One tweeted:

"Trade Petey for Jack Hughes please. It’s a good deal"

Another wrote:

"Miller and pettersson are not the problem it’s Rick Tocchet and his system and his coaching staff" on X.

Here are some more fan reactions:

"Wasn't enough finish tonight. So many missed chances. Need to finish. Not a bad game but we are beyond moral victories," one wrote.
"Tough to defend this performance. This team simply doesn’t have what it takes this year. No heart. No passion. Lots of blame to go around. One thing for certain is that it’s not JT’s fault. Would be ridiculous to blame him for this. Many, many changes needed," another wrote.
"Folded in the third. Demko horrible, Tocchet system stinks. Blow it up already," a user commented.
"What an embarrassment, we lose to the 3rd worse team in the league... Season is over... thank god i didn't buy tickets to watch this crap show," another fan wrote.

Jiri Kulich, JJ Peterka and Tage Thompson scored for the Sabres, while Philip Di Giuseppe and Elias Pettersson did so for the Canucks. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 32 stops, while Thatcher Demoko made 23 saves in the losss.

Vancouver Canucks HC Rick Tocchet on 3-2 loss against Buffalo Sabres

Vancouver Canucks coach Rick Tocchet expressed disappointment after the 3-2 loss to the Sabres.

"It's just been a microcosm of our season. Key times and key moments, we're just not getting them," Tocchet said in his post-game press conference.
"We're not protecting the middle of the ice and sometimes in a key moment, and I hate to use the word, but we go kind of numb.."

The Canucks held a 2-1 lead going into the third period before conceding two unanswered goals to the Sabres. Tocchet called out his players for making "blind plays" and not sticking to their roles at critical junctures of the game.

"Consistency is a responsibility of the player," he emphasized. "We've got to turn that around."

The Vancouver Canucks will look to bounce back on Thursday when they face the Edmonton Oilers on the road.
