WATCH: Canucks captain Quinn Hughes makes Vancouver fan's 105th birthday among her most memorable
The Vancouver Canucks celebrated a special milestone for a fan on Friday. Dorothy Palmer from Kelowna, British Columbia, turned 105 years old last weekend. Dorothy has been a loyal Canucks supporter since the team started in 1970, proving her loyalty for 54 years.
To honor Dorothy, the Canucks and captain Quinn Hughes made her birthday unforgettable. They recognized her as possibly the oldest Canucks fan and gifted her a special jersey with her last name and the number 105, representing her age.
Alongside the jersey was a note from the Canucks. Dorothy read the note aloud and showed the team's appreciation for her support:
“On behalf of the entire Vancouver Canucks organization, we wanted to wish you a happy 105th birthday. Your dedication and love for our team since inception has not gone unnoticed, so please enjoy this birthday present as a token of our appreciation. Have a wonderful birthday and Go Canucks Go."
Captain Quinn Hughes also sent a personal video message. In the message, Hughes congratulated Dorothy on her birthday:
“Hey Dorothy, it’s Quinn Hughes here, your captain. I hear you’re a massive Canucks fan, and I also hear that you are coming up on your 105th birthday. That’s just incredible, what a milestone,
"Congratulations! I hope it’s filled with laughter and love, and you have an incredible day."
Hughes called Dorothy an inspiration to him and his teammates and also expressed hope to make her proud next season:
"I know that you inspire myself and my teammates. Hopefully make you proud next season and hopefully get you out to a game, but congratulations to a milestone again. 105 just so special, congrats."
Later, Dorothy thanked the organization:
“I would like to thank the Vancouver Canucks and all the staff that made this possible, and my birthday so special. I want to give a big hug and thank you to Quinn Hughes for the video. Thank you, I love you all. Go Canucks go."
The Canucks are planning to bring Dorothy to a home game next season. She will get to cheer on her favorite team in person.
Son of former Vancouver Canucks player Bobby Lalonde seeks old jersey to honor family legacy
Court Lalonde needed help to find his father's old jersey. Bobby Lalonde, a former Vancouver Canucks forward, played from 1971 to 1977. His family has little memorabilia from his career and they needed his jersey to celebrate Bobby's time with the team.
“My dad loved playing in the NHL. He loved playing for the Vancouver @Canucks. (He’s) very proud of that. But we don’t really have anything besides hockey cards,” Court said. “I don’t even have a video from when he played.”
Despite finding some leads, potential sellers won't part with the jersey. Court is willing to pay a fair price but values the jersey more for its sentimental worth than its monetary value.
