"Watch the divide get wider": Ex-Maple Leaf Jay Rosehill speaks out on media divide after Donald Trump's assassination attempt

Former Toronto Maple Leafs star Jay Rosehill reacted on X last night after someone fired a shot at former President Donald Trump. The Republican nominee was hosting a rally in Pennsylvania when a bullet grazed past his ear, narrowly missing his head. He dropped down and the Secret Service stepped in, eliminating the shooter and protecting Trump.

In a divided country, an act like this may only perpetuate the chasm in Rosehill's eyes. He was stunned that such an attempt was made on the 45th president's life.

"I actually can’t believe that just happened tonight. This day and age. Watch all media put different spins on this. Watch the misinformation come in from all over the place. Watch the divide get wider. It’s just so pathetic the Western world is at this place right now," Rosehill posted on X.

The former Philadelphia Flyers player believes things will only get worse now in all aspects. Media coverage, political disagreements, misinformation, and more will be on the rise in his estimation.

Jay Rosehill's time in the NHL

Before Jay Rosehill was a hockey analyst and semi-reporter, he was a player in the NHL. He began his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs before playing the final two years of his NHL career with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Rosehill made his NHL debut in the 2009-2010 season. He played left winger and scored two points that season. He upped his total to three the following year before regressing to zero in his final year with the Maple Leafs. The most games he played in a season with the Leafs was 31. In his two seasons with the Flyers, Rosehill scored three goals in 45 games.

Rosehill never really got much success in his five-season-long NHL career. Still, he found a nice lane in the media world, becoming the co-host of the "Leafs Morning Take" podcast following his departure from professional hockey.
