SNOW in concert

Reggae legend Snow on "Informer 2018" and following the Toronto Maple Leafs

One of the most memorable songs of the early 1990s, "Informer" was an award-winning track that sold over eight million copies worldwide. Furthermore, "Informer" holds the distinction of being the best selling reggae single in U.S. history, according to the Guinness Book Of World Records.

But "Informer" was not Snow's only hit, as "Girl I've Been Hurt", "Everybody Wants To Be Like You", and "Sexy Girl" have also charted internationally; follow-up albums Murder Love, Justuss and Mind On The Moon were also major label releases that sold respectably. Furthermore, Snow was the recipient of a SOCAN Lifetime Achievement Award last year.

As they say, everything old is new again at some point, and 2018 has brought the release of "Informer 2018" from the acclaimed reggae artist. To learn more about that, in addition to Snow's long-term appreciation of the National Hockey League, I spoke with Snow himself. More on Snow can be found online at www.daddysnow.com.

Where did the idea for doing an update on "Informer" come from?

Snow: My manager was in London speaking with Matt Meyers of Audiofreaks who was a big fan of mine and loved the song "Informer." Matt said he wanted me to record a new version with him with DJ club mixes for the new generation.

How long did you spend recording "Informer 2018?”

Snow: Audiofreaks recorded the track and I spent about an hour recording the vocal.

Aside from music, you are known to be a big fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. When did you first get into hockey?

Snow: I’m Canadian so I was born into hockey. Growing up I was a big fan of Bob Probert and the Detroit Red Wings. It was at that time when Probert was mixing it up with anybody who got in his way that I was getting into trouble and thought I could be a fighter like Probert. It wasn’t until about four years ago that I became a devoted Toronto Maple Leafs fan

Were you yourself ever a hockey player?

Snow: No, I never played hockey although it’s interesting that my cousin is Brad Park the Hockey Hall of Famer defenseman for the New York Rangers and then the Boston Bruins.

Do you have a favorite player on the Maple Leafs?

Snow: My favorite Leafs are Auston Matthews, William Nylander, Mitch Marner and Matt Martin.

Were you happy with the 2017-18 season of the Maple Leafs?

Snow: Yes, until they lost game 7 of the opening round of the playoffs.

Did you get to go to any Maple Leafs games in-person this past season?

Snow: Yes, I’m fortunate to have gone to quite a few games.

To you, does any sport come close to hockey?

Snow: The only sport for me that comes close to hockey is boxing. I’m a big boxing fan.

"Informer 2018" aside, what is coming up for you in your career?

Snow: More recording, more videos, and touring.

Finally, any last words for the kids?

Snow: Work hard, play hard!
