NHL trade rumors: Insider deems Vancouver Canucks a good fit for $20.125M Marcus Pettersson

NHL Insider Harman Dayal has identified the Vancouver Canucks as a potential landing spot for Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Marcus Pettersson. Dalay highlighted Pettersson as an ideal partner, particularly emphasizing his compatibility with top players like Erik Karlsson.

On the "CanucksConvo Podcast," with David Quadrelli, Harman said:

"He's the model sort of partner for, like, for, no, no, it's probably a first Marcus Patterson is a really good man. Like he, he's the model sort of partner like for Erik Karlsson; I don't know if you've heard Karlsson talk about Marcus Patterson.
"Karlson just raves and raves about Petters, like he's Pittsburgh's only top-four defender that can actually defend really well."

Karlsson has been vocal in praising Pettersson, praising due to his abilities. Dayal drew parallels between him and Shea Theodore in terms of trade discussions, indicating that acquiring him would come at a high cost, likely more than just a second-round pick. He added:

"So is he in this conversation that Shea Theodore is in as well, where if a team's training for him, they're just extending him, like he may be a pure rental, just kind of, kind of depends, but it's like, you're not going to get him for a second-round pick, or like, a second plus something else, it's going to be expensive."

The insider expressed admiration for the player's skill, noting his ability to move the puck effectively while also being a reliable defenseman.

"That's where, like, I love Petterson as a player, and stylistically, it would check both boxes in that. Okay, he could move the puck, but also, like, he's somebody that Rick talk could hypothetically turn to go out and defend against Conor McDavid in the playoffs."

The addition of Pettersson could offer the Vancouver Canucks a versatile player capable of facing formidable opponents, like Connor McDavid in playoff matchups.

Pettersson is entering the final year of his five-year, $20.125 million contract. He will become an unrestricted free agent after the end of the 2024–25 season.

Vancouver Canucks' new addition Vincent Desharnais expresses gratitude towards former team's fan base

The Vancouver Canucks signed defenseman Vincent Desharnais to a two-year, $2 million deal last month. He joined the Canucks after playing for two seasons with the Edmonton Oilers.

In a statement, Desharnais expressed his gratitude towards Oil Country, sharing his positive experience:

"People always say social media is negative, but when I posted a thank you to Oil Country, I had over 600 comments, and they were all positive. It was very heartwarming and overwhelming to read and made me feel even better about my time in Edmonton.
"I will miss the boys, the city and the fans, but I look forward to playing against them," Desharnais said (via Sports 1440).
